Why Our Wool Is Different

We source fine wool in limited quantities, constantly searching for the next exceptional fabric. Because of our manufacturing scale and commitment to quality, stocking the exact same wool year after year often isn't possible.

Much like fine wines, every batch of wool has its own unique character. Variations in color, texture, and feel are part of what makes each garment special.

Our standards are high, which means we pass on a significant amount of wool and fabric that larger suppliers may gladly purchase. While many products may appear similar at first glance, we believe exceptional garments begin with exceptional materials.

That's why we do what we do. We are committed to building the best garments possible and will never cut corners or lower our standards.

See it. Feel it. Choose with confidence.

Not sure which wool is right for you? Order a Cutweather wool sample and experience the fabric for yourself before choosing your garment.

Our wool samples allow you to see the true color, feel the texture, and compare the weight and character of different wool options from the comfort of home. Photos can only tell you so much—holding the wool in your hands gives you a better understanding of what makes each option unique.

Your sample may help you compare:

  • Color and pattern
  • Wool weight and thickness
  • Texture and softness
  • Warmth and overall feel
  • Different wool options side by side

If you're deciding between multiple wool options, a physical sample is one of the best ways to make your choice with confidence.

Once you've found your wool, you'll be ready to build your Cutweather piece with a fabric you know you'll love.

Please note: Wool samples are intended to represent the available wool options as accurately as possible. Because wool is a natural material, slight variations in color, texture, and pattern may occur.

Wool Descriptions

Midweight Wools (16–18 oz)

Olive 16 oz: Standard mil-spec shirting weight. Plenty of warmth & loose/flexible.

Ivory 18 oz: A luxurious fabric that's both warm & forgiving.

Heather Gray 18 oz: A medium tone gray that's great for all of our products.

Heavy Weight Wools (22–23 oz)

Charcoal 22 oz: A classy, mid/heavyweight black that withstands the dust & debris of daily life without appearing linty or dirty. The varying yarn colors of the charcoal hide pet hair & other debris that other solid colors don't.

Crimson 22 oz: A fine weave for all our products, warm, tight weave, & woven to last.

Hunter Orange 23 oz: Be seen & stay warm with this heavyweight weave of high-visibility orange. A classic choice for deer season.

Camo Heavy Weight Wools (24 oz)

All of our Camouflage Wool: American 24 oz wool, soft, downy lofty with moderate bulk.

Extra Heavy Weight Wools (25–30 oz)

Mackinaw Plaid 25 oz: This classic pattern has strong American roots, intertwined with forestry disciplines of the late 19th century. It’s a super heavyweight weave & the red is a slightly darker, more muted shade than a bright, fire engine red.

Espresso 30 oz: An excellent choice for all our designs. Think dark chocolate, coffee brown.

Navy 30 oz: Mil-spec for navy officers' Peacoats. Stiff & warm, tight weave great for cutting the wind.
